Objective Behavioral Health Assessment Tool (OBHAT)
Capability Summary: Objective monitoring, screening, diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive tools related to identification, triage, treatment, and prevention of behavioral issues in Service Members at Role 1-4, pre-Role 1 in deployed, and garrison environments.
Impact: Providers require objective tools to screen, diagnose, and treat behavioral health (BH) issues to maintain readiness.
- Lack of reporting leads to preventable crises.
- Only 40% of military personnel with BH problems seek help [Sharp et al., 2015].
- BH clinics are overburdened in the deployed and garrison space.
- 80% of the Service Members who presented to Air Force BH clinics did not have a BH Disorder [AFMED Data Analysis, 2023].
- Only around 1 in 3 new patients at BH clinics needs clinical care.
- A need for additional clinical decision tools to help overwhelmed providers.
- Most vectoring/triage decisions are made by enlisted and other junior personnel.
- Non-BH medical providers make most BH prescriptions.
