Fort Detrick, Md. - The Department of Defense released a $160 million funding announcement for "Advanced Tissue Biofabrication Manufacturing Innovation Institute". The goal is to advance and develop critical manufacturing and testing technologies for human tissue-based products.
The technical focus of the ATB-MII at a minimum will be comprised of four thrust areas:
Thrust Area 1: Cell & Material Selection & Sourcing
Thrust Area 2: Biofabrication Platforms
Thrust Area 3: Process Design and Automation
Thrust Area 4: Tissue Finishing and Testing Technologies
The ATB-MII will be managed by the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity and funded by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
USAMMDA encourages proposals that specifically address advance state-of-the-art tissue manufacturing innovations in cell and biomaterial processing, bioprinting, automation and non-destructive testing technologies.
